Appointing a new Rector to the
Benefice of Burghclere with Newtown and Ecchinswell with Sydmonton

Recruitment Update April 2025
As you might have heard, sadly no applicants responded to our initial advertisement in March to be our new Rector. The Diocese continues to feature our details on their website. A fresh campaign will follow in the Church Times next month. Please pray for those who may be considering applying.

During this period of vacancy, or "interregnum," as we seek a new Rector to lead our Benefice, similar to any other job, we have created a job description and placed an advertisement, which in our case is in the Church Times.
The advertisement runs for a period of four weeks, it is paused for a while to allow shortlisting of canditates and interviews to be undertaken by a group of six individuals: the Bishop of Basingstoke, Lord Carnarvon (our patron), the Archdeacon, and three lay representatives from our PCCs.
You can view our advertisement and the Parish Profile (a description of our Benefice and the role) at Burghclere Vacancy or by scanning the QR right.

In the meantime, our service pattern will continue as usual. We have arranged a fantastic rota of visiting clergy, including Bishop David and Archdeacon Richard, so please join us for our services. Use the Browser Back Button to return to this page.
You are always assured of a warm welcome and a hot cup of coffee!

Please continue to pray for each other, for our communities and additionally for the candidate priests - and indeed for all those who minister, lay and ordained - as we begin this next exciting stage in our joint journey of faith.

If you or anyone you know would like to inquire about a Wedding, Baptism, Funeral, or any other church-related matter, please contact:
The Churchwardens by email: Benefice Churchwardens

Alternatively, feel free to call one of the people listed on either
Contacts page for Burghclere and Newtown.
Or Contacts page for Ecchinswell.

We look forward to seeing you soon at one of our services.
